Aaron Baker’s Remarkable Journey: From 6,000 Miles of Awareness to 27,000 Miles of Adventure

An athlete, author, speaker, and founder of the Adversity into Adventure Foundation, Aaron Baker encapsulates what it means to remain resolute and believe in something special —the power of possibility. His path as a spinal cord injury awareness advocate started with adventures that have taken him thousands of miles, both literally and figuratively.

From Awareness to Adventure: A 6,000-Mile Start

Aaron's journey started as a 3,182-mile tandem bicycle ride from Dog Beach in San Diego across the Southern tier to end at St. Augustine, Florida. With his mom by his side, Aaron's mission was simple: to promote the power of possibility.

Reflecting on this journey, Aaron said, “We were promoting the power of possibility, literally riding into rehab hospitals and people's lives. It was about showing what’s possible even in the face of extreme adversity.”

The initial journey wasn't just about raising awareness but also one of Aaron's personal challenges. “I wanted to see how far I could recover and what a tandem bicycle could do for me physically,” he shared. They encountered patients on their journey, and they landed a message of inspirational healing.

The Rise Above Tour: A New Challenge

That first tour was a hit, and it inspired Aaron to do something bigger. This became the Rise Above Tour, in which Aaron rode his custom three-wheeled bicycle from San Francisco to Washington D.C., traveling 4,220 miles along the TransAmerica Trail.

“This time, the journey was about validating the concept of core strength and resilience,” Aaron explained. “Pedaling alongside my mother again was incredibly purposeful and reaffirmed my belief in the power of possibility.”

27,000 Miles and Counting

What began as a 6,000-mile awareness and advocacy tour has developed into Aaron's odyssey, traveling him more than 27000 miles thus far, showcasing his remarkable dedication to motivating others.

“This journey has been about pushing the limits and proving that we can rise above any challenge,” Aaron noted. “It is a reflection of resilience, community, and our boundless opportunities to extend beyond the ordinary.”
